Omiš – Dalmatia – Croatia
On the stretch of the central Croatian Adriatic coast in Dalmatia, near the historic UNESCO cities of Split and Trogir, is located the city of Omiš, also known for its turbulent and rich “pirate” past and the Republic of Poljica, which stretched from the Cetina River to Split itself, and in Omis hinterland. Omiš is also partly a UNESCO city due to the protection of traditional “a capella” singing that has been taking place in Omiš in the heart of the city for 58 years. The area has been inhabited since ancient times and today we can still see plenty of evidence of these earlier civilizations which you can experience in the city museum.
In front of the apartment is a long promenade along the river and the sea that connects the two banks of the river Cetina. We invite you to walk along the promenade through the town of Omiš and enjoy various restaurants and cultural sights by the sea. The areas of the old city center are often praised for the particularly interesting architecture of the fortresses Mirabela (which you can easily visit) and Fortica, and several churches along parts of the city walls. A casual Mediterranean way of life, a combination of traditional values and a modern urban way of life, socializing with coffee in lively cafes, open and warm-hearted people like Omiš.
A special experience is the canyon of the river Cetina, which stretches all the way to excellent gastronomic destinations in Kaštel Slanica and Radmanove Mlinice, and a little further on in the “stone” restaurant Kremenko. You can reach Radmanove Mlinice by organized boats that are moored next to the Bridge on
the Cetina River itself, and you can also rent small boats yourself and plan your day as you wish. At the same time, there are boats along the coast of Cetina that take one-day trips to the islands of Brač and Hvar. Omiš is located near the two dynamic and historical cities of Split and Trogir, which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, only 25-40 km away from Omiš.
Split, the second largest city in Croatia, is a combination of modern life and ancient history. In the city of Split there are numerous night clubs, restaurants, shopping centers, cinemas as well as museums, theaters and historical sights, and one of the oldest cultural events SPLIT SUMMER (70 years) and the SPLIT ENTERTAINMENT MUSIC FESTIVAL (60 years).
Trogir is a small charming historical town and one of the best preserved Romanesque towns in this part of Europe. A walk through the streets of Trogir is like a trip to the time of the Greeks, Romans and Venetians. It looks more like a museum than a city.
Dubrovnik is a historic city on the Adriatic Sea in southern Croatia, 2.5 hours by car from Omiš. Dubrovnik is known as the jewel in the crown of the Adriatic coast. Its rich and troubled history has left behind many stunning monuments and buildings. Also included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Krka Waterfalls National Park, a must-see destination, 1.5 hours by car from Omiš. Amazing and wild nature with beautiful waterfalls will take your breath away. Walk, admire and swim in the vast area of a natural lake with fresh, crystal clear water and enchanting untouched nature.
The Plitvice Lakes National Park is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is 3.5 hours drive from Omiš. Enjoy the timeless beauty of thousands of picturesque waterfalls on a full-day tour of the Plitvice Lakes National Park. Located in the dense forests of Croatia, the National Park is considered one of the most beautiful natural phenomena in the world.
Gastronomy, Croatian gastronomy, especially along the coast and on the islands, is based on the tradition of natural and healthy Mediterranean food rich in vegetables, olive oil, fish, shellfish, wine, goat and sheep cheese, citrus fruits, maraschino cherries, grapes, figs and almonds. The combination of sea, sun and karst is recognized as necessary for the cultivation of certain crops, especially grapes and olives, the so called food of the gods. So, all lovers of good wine and Mediterranean cuisine, welcome to Dalmatia. When we talk about wine, we can rightly say that Croatia is the homeland of the well-known Plavac Mali wine variety.
